ABOUT D&L DESIGN ENGINEERING

Practical engineering support for businesses that need capability, not another permanent hire.

The business is built around a simple idea: make experienced engineering resource easier for SMEs to access on a project, task or short-term support basis.

Approach

Useful outputs, clear boundaries and a manufacturing-aware mindset

D&L Design Engineering focuses on work that can be clearly scoped and handed back to the customer in a practical form: 3D CAD, drawings, engineering reports, fixture concepts, BOM reviews and technical project support.

What the business is designed to do

Help smaller manufacturers and engineering teams move technical work forward when internal capacity is limited. That may be a one-off component issue, a CAD design task, a backlog of drawings or a production problem that needs a fixture or engineered solution.

The emphasis is on clear deliverables, realistic assumptions and work that can be used by the customer's own engineering, purchasing, manufacturing or supplier teams.

How projects are handled

Each job is scoped around the information available, the intended deliverable and the level of responsibility being taken on. Where testing, validation or specialist certification is required, that remains visible in the project scope rather than being implied.

Confidential information is used only for the agreed project purpose, and NDA arrangements can be discussed where required.

Experience & qualifications

A formal electrical/electronic engineering foundation backed by hands-on design experience

The technical work behind D&L Design Engineering is supported by a BEng (Hons) degree in Electronic & Electrical Engineering and more than 15 years of experience working in engineering and design.

Cross-disciplinary design experience

Experience spans hands-on design in both mechanical and electrical forms, allowing product issues to be considered as complete engineering problems rather than isolated CAD or component tasks.

That includes 3D mechanical design, electronics integration, drawings, component selection and replacement, production support, engineering change and practical prototype development.

Prototype support

D&L can also provide 3D-printed prototype parts for suitable projects, helping customers move from CAD into a physical fit, form or concept check without arranging a separate prototype supplier for every early iteration.

Hands-on design

Mechanical and electrical engineering brought together.

Many product problems sit between disciplines. The service is built around practical experience integrating electronics, housings, fasteners, interfaces, drawings and manufacturability rather than treating each area in isolation.

Capability

Support that connects design decisions to the real manufacturing problem

The service is intentionally broad enough to support mechanical design, electronics integration, component change, manufacturing documentation and practical production improvement without pretending that every project needs a large consultancy engagement.

Product & mechanical design

3D CAD, housings, brackets, interfaces, assemblies and controlled design modifications.

Electronics integration

Mechanical packaging around PCBs, connectors, controls, cable routes, mounting and service access.

Lifecycle & sourcing support

Component obsolescence, alternative-part investigation, second-source comparisons and BOM risk review.

Manufacturing support

Jigs, fixtures, drawings, change control support and structured engineering work packages for busy teams.

Confidentiality

Initial enquiries can be kept high-level. If a project requires confidential drawings, source files or unreleased product information, an NDA and an appropriate file-transfer method can be agreed before sensitive information is shared.
